WOW – What a summer………..

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Hi everyone,

What a summer it has been. First Christmas – we trust everyone had a safe and enjoyable one, then soaring temperatures over January made people flock to our beaches, especially Port Fairy and of course as we all know there was the “Black Saturday” bushfires. We at Daktari, Bindy, Devil Diving and Port Fairy Surf extend our sincerest condolences to anyone and everyone who has been affected by these fires – it is always a critical time over the hot summer months but then to have arsonists joining in to make it our worst summer ever…well what can you say? It leaves you bewildered and angered…..we certainly hope the rest of 2009 is brighter for everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the fire victims, fire fighters and all emergency personnel throughout the coming weeks as they mop up and face the long task ahead.

Please mark your calendars – March 1st is Clean Up Australia Day and once again, we at Port Fairy Surf & Dive/Devil Diving will be coordinating clean up activities at both South Beach/Pea Soup and East Beach on the day. We need volunteers for all areas and you can either register online at www.cleanup.com.au or you can come into Port Fairy Surf Shop at 33 Bank Street, Port Fairy. You can also register on the day at the meeting points prior to the start of the clean up. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Divers are needed for South Beach bay to assist in cleaning up all the discarded beer bottles, tennis balls and rubbish that has accumulated over the past 12 months. Divers must show proof of certification and recent log book history showing dives within last 6 months.

Volunteers for beach and land clean up are needed for all sites. Registration for divers and beach clean up for South Beach/pea Soup will take place at the rear of Port Fairy Surf Shop starting at 9.45am on the morning of 1st March. Registration for East Beach and surrounds will take place on the grass area outside the surf club starting at 10am.

Any questions or concerns may be directed to Sharene on 0433 755 553 or 5568 2800.

Happy 2009!

We will supply garbage bags for rubbish and recycling, gloves and tongs. There will also be a sharps container available but so far we have not had the need for this in Port Fairy – let’s hope it stays that way.
